I've been working with photography for nearly 9 years, and during this time I've been able to experiment with different techniques for digital and analog photography. The following series of images are my art.
Manifest Series
The Manifest Series was created in 2010 for my Senior Art Exhibition at UW-Stout.
Manifest Artist Statement
Lyrics and poetry inspire my work: I’m drawn to the appearance of text and the pronunciation of each word. The resulting photographs are in black and white to draw attention to the rhythm in each piece. I create places upon the body for the text to exist in, paper too plain of a surface. Tattoos intrigued me, however I wanted the text to only exist in moments taken with a camera. I use washable markers and India Ink to write upon skin, changes in the light plus the natural flaws of the surface gave each photograph a unique feel from any other surface.
I keep a small notebook of references with me to write down new words I come across, these words tend to have unique meanings but I’m fascinated by the sound of their pronunciation. The photographs I create are based on the feeling of the words. The meaning, legibility, and orientation are irrelevant to each piece. Words are allowed to flow across the body’s contours in the same way ink moves. I re-contextualize these words to stand as evidence of something felt at the time however briefly felt these emotions are.
Evidence Series
These are from my Advanced Photography course at UW Stevens Point. The series is predominantly about words and phrases.
Familiar Series
These are from my Intermediate Photography course at UWSP. I've always been very interested in macro photography and decided to use an autobellows to create a set of macro photographs.
